Welcome to the Gippsland Region

Gippsland Region mapA message from the Regional Director

It is with pleasure that we invite you to "browse" this site. In doing so, you will discover information about this rural region. There are many great opportunities at hand in the work we do with citizens and communities in this rich and diverse place.

Our regional operations cover six local government areas with approximately 240,114 residents, and we have departmental offices in Warragul, Morwell, Traralgon, Leongatha, Sale and Bairnsdale.

In conjunction with many stakeholders, our focus is on protecting and promoting health and well being in Gippsland. The majority of regional office staff are involved in providing direct client services in child protection and placement, juvenile justice, specialist children's services, school nursing, disability services and housing. However, much important work is also undertaken in planning and working with the many agencies that provide health and community care services throughout the region.

Gippsland is characterised by innovation and cooperation. The region has been a pioneer of Neighbourhood Renewal in the Latrobe Valley and is proud of other collaborative programs such as Best Start in Wellington Shire and the Better Health Care in Gippsland project. Inter-departmental co-operation is also a hallmark of the region.

The regional office supports its staff with training and development opportunities, and has introduced an excellent orientation program for new staff. We are committed to continuously improving the quality of our work and participate in the department's internal quality program, the Regional Service Excellence Framework.

Welcome to Gippsland.
